Welcome
Hello! I’m Dave Naylor, and I’m the latest addition here at Coding Futures. My role in the team is WordPress Support Technician. I’ll primarily be dealing with customer support queries in our forums, assisting the development team with Your Members and carrying out WordPress maintenance for our customers.
I’m excited about my new job and I’m looking forward to helping everyone out. If I don’t know the answer to your specific problem, I’ll do my utmost to track down a solution to get you up and running again, as quickly as possible.
Caching Plugins
I’ve been here for a month now and, reading the forums every day, one issue that crops up time-after-time is caching. There are several popular caching plugins for WordPress, but Your Members administrators should be cautious when deploying them at the same time as Your Members. Initially, your site may run normally, without any noticeable effects. However, trouble is almost certainly around the corner. Tim has written a blog post on the matter, and it’s worthwhile reading, if you want to steer clear of trouble.
Caching plugins can speed up your site by delivering static content and reducing database calls. But, if you rely on this method to improve the responsiveness of your site, it might be better to improve your hosting environment. Moving from shared hosting to a VPS or dedicated server should make a significant increase in your site’s performance overall. You could also take advantage of a Content Delivery Network (CDN).
Your Members 11.2.0
The latest version of Your Members is already in the hands of our beta testers, and will be released publicly very soon. So far everything is going well, and there are no reported issues.
There a number of new features with this release which we’ve documented here . Alongside exciting features such as new payment gateways Go Cardless and Stripe, we’ve also added a number of subtle improvements for you can enjoy.
For instance, you can now CC/BCC payment gateway emails to one or more specified additional addresses. This is great if more than one person on your site has responsibility for memberships administration. Everyone that needs to know about new members or subscriptions can now be notified simultaneously.
Here at Coding Futures, we are always on the lookout for new or improved features. If any current (or prospective) Your Members customers have a brilliant idea for a killer feature, simply write a forum post detailing your feature request, and we’ll have a team brainstorming session to see if it’s viable. We want our product to be the best on the market, and with the help of our vibrant Your Members community, I think we can justifiably make that claim.
Dave’s Support Corner
I’ll be writing a series of blog posts about Your Members features and common support queries. We’ve called it Dave’s Support Corner. (I actually do occupy a corner desk in our office so the name is very appropriate!)
If anyone wants to learn more about any aspect of Your Members, feel free to contact me and I’ll add it to my list of proposed articles. It doesn’t matter if it’s something big or small. The more suggestions, the better.
That’s all for now. See you in my first Support Corner article. Typed live, from the corner!
